After fabrics are made, they undergo a special treatment called after finish. After finish is like giving fabrics a makeover to make them look better and make them easier to use.

There are two main types of finishing: mechanical and chemical. Mechanical finishing is the use of machines to treat fabrics. For example, stenter finishing makes the width of the fabric consistent so there are no mistakes when cutting. And shaping finishing is to shape the fabric by high temperature to make its size more stable so that it will not be easy to shrink after washing. Abrasion finishing is the use of machines to grind out a layer of fluff on the surface of the fabric, so that it is softer to the touch and warmer to wear.

Chemical finishing is the use of chemical reagents to treat the fabric. For example, waterproofing is to apply a special film on the surface of the fabric, so that the water beads roll around on it instead of penetrating into it, so that the fabric doesn't have to worry about getting wet by the water, and stays dry all the time, which is suitable for diving suits and mountaineering suits. Anti-fouling finishing is to make the fabric not easy to stain, even if stained, it is easy to wash off. Antimicrobial finishing is to add antibacterial agent into the fabric so that it is difficult for bacteria to grow on it, especially suitable for underwear and sportswear.

After finish not only improves the performance of the fabric, but also adds other functions to the fabric. For example, fabrics with anti-wrinkle finishing can be worn without ironing after washing, which is especially easy to take care of; fabrics with soft finishing are more comfortable to touch. Therefore, finishing is very important for fabrics, and it can make the clothes made of fabrics more popular.
